The Washington D.C. International was a prestigious horse race held annually from 1952 to 1994 at Maryland’s Laurel Park. This groundbreaking event attracted elite horses from around the world, marking the first truly international horse race in North America and transforming global horse racing by promoting international competition. Although it was ultimately discontinued due to competition from newer international races, it left a lasting legacy and inspired future events like the Breeders' Cup.
